During the operation of diesel generator sets, the engine sometimes exhibits abnormal operation. The following describes several common faults and their solutions.

1. Black smoke from engine exhaust

Cause: Poor atomization of fuel injector, excessive fuel supply, blocked air filter. Solution: Check the fuel injector, clean or replace; adjust the fuel supply; clean the air filter.

2. Blue smoke from engine exhaust

Cause: Engine oil entering the combustion chamber, piston ring wear, too much oil in the oil pan. Solution: Check the piston rings and replace them if necessary; drain the excess oil.

3. Insufficient engine power

Cause: Blocked fuel system, blocked intake and exhaust, turbocharger failure. Solution: Clean the fuel system; check the intake and exhaust pipes; repair the turbocharger.

4. Engine abnormal noise

Cause: Too early fuel injection, loose parts, bearing wear. Solution: Adjust fuel injection timing; tighten loose parts; replace worn bearings.
